During my final days of mentorship, I experienced the true meaning of Person-Centered Care. After spending time engaging in conversation with a resident to ensure she felt 'at home' rather than just 'in a facility,' she surprised me with a small gift—a printed page of birds. This gesture deeply moved me because I realized that for residents in long-term care, these small tokens represent their heart and gratitude. In return, I used my hobby of painting to create a special piece for her featuring the same birds. After clearing it with my mentor and the LPN, I presented it to her. Her joy and her blessings meant more to me than any words can describe. This experience taught me that while general care is my duty, the emotional connection and validation I provide to residents is what truly makes me a good CCA.
